September Community Service
This month I took part in two volunteer opportunities. The first began at the start of the semester. This semester I am a Teaching Assistant for Cellular Anatomy taught at the Tulane Uptown Campus by Sarah Garner. I am serving as a Teaching Assistant as a volunteer and not receiving any compensation. It has been rewarding thus far to help students learn about the human body in a class that I enjoyed so much. Along with that, this material is directly relevant to my desire to pursue medicine, making teaching it all the more exciting. During class, I help students with dissections as well as learning the muscles, vasculature, and nerves of the human body. I also held a review session for their upcoming exam. During this review session, I gave students a practice exam and helped them study properly for their test.
Along with my experiences as a teaching assistant, I volunteered at the NOLA Beer Fest, which partners with the Louisiana SPCA. It was a lot of fun volunteering at the event and helping the event run smoothly. I had multiple jobs during my shift, all of which helped people enjoy the festival to bring in more money and guests for the SPCA. It was rewarding to know that my time volunteering was to ensure more money went to the SPCA rather than paying employees. There were hundreds of volunteers that helped the festival run smoothly, including setup, during the event, and cleaning up. I look forward to volunteering again with this festival as well as other things hosted by the SPCA.
Total Hours of Service: 10 hours of Teaching Assistant + 4 Hours at Festival = 14 Hours
